vbDrupal 5 beta getting close

Today I spend some time on the update process. The installation was already working (good enough). Previously, for the alpha release, I worked on the installation system a lot. Today I decided to test the system with previous releases of vbDrupal.

vbDrupal 5 installation process

The (clean) installation process of vbDrupal 5 works. And it's very easy, even easier than the installation of Drupal 5. It only requires a few actions pending on the file permissions.
After uploading the files the user can directly browse to the destination site. vbDrupal will detect it is not installed yet and redirect the user to the install script. If vbDrupal has write access to the configuration directory it will directly initiate the install process. Otherwise the user will have to copy the settings template file to desired location and make it writable. After that the user needs to reload the page and initiate the installation process.

Recent inactivity in development

In the recent few weeks I haven't been very active in both development or support. The reason for this is that, besides the various projects, I'm also working on my master thesis. I had a couple of deadlines. Because of this I didn't have much spare time that I want to devote to development.
This means that I haven't done anything since the last bog entry.
Anyway, I'm still working on my thesis, but I do have some more spare time. Especially, time that I can devote to vbDrupal.

Drupal 5 installer system

I had some spare time today and decided to look into the new graphical installer that comes with Drupal 5. The installer itself isn't very facy, it just provides a way to set the correct database configuration and create the database structure. Something you usually had to do manually (for Drupal).

First blog entry, vbDrupal 5 development updates

I've decided to use the blog feature of Drupal to do some more regular status updates about the vbDrupal developments. You know, the normal blog like reporting and ranting about stuff I've done, are going to do and the things I've thought about. So here's the first development update on vbDrupal 5.
