vbDrupal 5 installation process

The (clean) installation process of vbDrupal 5 works. And it's very easy, even easier than the installation of Drupal 5. It only requires a few actions pending on the file permissions.
After uploading the files the user can directly browse to the destination site. vbDrupal will detect it is not installed yet and redirect the user to the install script. If vbDrupal has write access to the configuration directory it will directly initiate the install process. Otherwise the user will have to copy the settings template file to desired location and make it writable. After that the user needs to reload the page and initiate the installation process.

The install process will try to find the vBulletin path. When vBulletin is in a parent, child (named 'forum') or sibling directory (named 'forum), it will automatically be found. Otherwise the user will be prompted to enter the directory. After that the settings file is updated and made read only All the tables will be created, the vBulletin plugin code will be install, and some predefined settings will be saved. This process only takes a couple of seconds.
After that the user will need to sync the vbDrupal and vBulletin user tables, this is simply the next step in the installation procedure and is fully automated. Depending on the number of users on the forum, it will take a couple of seconds up to several minutes (it took 20 second on my test site with 4000+ users).

After that the installation is complete and the user can start configuring the site.

Below is a screencap of how the install process could go (note: not all steps are shown).

This is ofcourse for clean installations of vbDrupal. Updating an older vbDrupal (4.7 or 5) would simply be done starting the update script. vbDrupal 4.6 users would probably first need to upgrade to 4.7.

Next steps before the beta is released:

  • Finish/test the update process
  • Some more testing

great news .. I actually had quite a number of problems with Drupal 5 and its installation when it came to permissions

lovely to see progress

everything went just like that except for some reason I was not logged in as administrator in vbulletin because it stated an error on user syncronization.

Now I think I may have a permission problem because users are not sync'd ...

how do I manually do this.

A user that I created in vbulletin does not show as a user in vbdrupal.

Thanks

Don
