Hello everyone.
I've been searching the forums and have read the tips and tricks but haven't found any real clear information. So far I have an installation of VB at /public_html/forum and a vbdrupal install at /public_html/drupal.
Now this leaves me with many questions and I'd like to make a contribution to the manual once all these questions are answered. Here they are:
When I first came here to look this over, I had a heck of a time trying to figure out which version of Drupal I was installing. It seemed very unclear. I found a thread discussing this but it should probably be on the first page when going to vbdrupal and reading the installation. Why couldn't we make this very clear without having to search for it? Shouldn't the Drupal version of vbDrupal be posted here: http://www.vbdrupal.org/taxonomy_menu/3/9
Best practices? Personally, I have a new forum (VB) and love drupal for a cms. However, integrating the two for a newbie seems a bit difficult when there is limited documentation. Which brings me to the following questions.
To make everything work like some of the nice site's I've seen with VBdrupal, what would be the most ideal location for installation? Do you install vb drupal in the root directory and VB in a subdirectory? What's the best scenario for paths so that upgrades and integration with SEO practices will work well?
To integrate the two as in VBDrupal, I personally have them both installed and my forum works fine and the vbdrupal installation looks good and I'm using the default forum theme... However, it's been difficult finding any clear and concise documentation on how to make the content area show the latests posts or the forum itself. Is there a post or documentation somewhere that could make this step clear?
On the VBdrupal up near the top as in the forum, there are folders that show paths to where you are in the forum. If I click the main path, it takes me out of the drupal install and into the forum. How would I make it so it goes to the drupal home page rather than the VB homepage?
On the vbdrupal install on the main page, with the default installation I have two login fields. The one on top for the vb forum and the one on the left for the drupal. The one on the top has the paths along with some links and search as in any vb default installation. All these links take me out of the drupal and into the vb. How do I integrate this so it works correctly? Is there any documentation or posts that describe this?
Size of the forum in drupal? Should I have it set to 100% in the forum or should I have it set to 800 x 600? What would be the ideal setting so it can be seen and accessed by computers with old monitors?... or at least the best settings that cover the majority of users.
What is a step by step process for setting a vbdrupal installation up? Many of you have already done this and set it up but not all of us are as savy as some. Could there be a step by step process to get your site up and running with ease? Something that could be clear and concise as far as directions?
--added another question... When I go to my vbdrupal installation and login on my vbdrupal login and not my vb login, it show's that I'm logged in but it still shows the that I have to login and doesn't give me a link to administer my drupal content or create content. Also, when I'm not logged in it shows the new forum posts, but when I am logged in it shows those headings but nothing under them. What makes this happen?
This integration is absolutely the finest thing between two of the best programs out there. However, like anything else, it's only as good as it's documentation.
There are many many sites and integrations we can find but there is very little in the way of good documentation to support. Most of the documentation I've read on many sites, assume quite a bit so the documentation is a little unclear to the average joe.
Personally I've installed and have built sites with Joomla, Mambo, and now getting into drupal because I believe it's the best out there. However I had a hard time setting up my first VBdrupal site and I'm still stuck.
What I'd like to do is put together a best practices guideline that integrates the two. I want to uninstall the current vbdrupal install and go through it again so I can form some sort of step by step contribution to get people up and running without having to sift through posts spread accross different forums.
Understand that I'm not knocking anything that's being done here, I just want to contribute to what I think is a great thing. If anyone would be willing to help answer some of these questions I have or direct me to where there is an answer, I'd me most appreciative. On the same token if there is already something written like this that is suffcient, please direct me to it.
Thanks for all your help!
