vbDrupal is a fork from the Drupal CMS which integrates Drupal with the vBulletin forum software.
All third party modules and themes for Drupal should also work with this version of vbDrupal.
This version of vbDrupal is based on Drupal version 5.1.
It has been designed to work with vBulletin version 3.6. A copy of the vBulletin software is required in order to use this piece of software.
!! THIS IS AN ALPHA RELEASE !!
It does not feature a working Drupal installer. Installation steps are still the same as they were with the previous vbDrupal versions. Only install this version if you are going to help in the development of vbDrupal 5. No support will be given for this release. So use it at your own risk.
With the exception of a proper installation system all functionality should work. If you encounter any problems please provide detailed reports on your forum:

Just wondering, has this been tested with vB 3.5.x?
All4Data
05-09-2007, 12:47 AM
a poll was conducted and from that poll I thinks it was decided that 3.5 would not be supported
will probably have to wait for elmuerte or sifu for confirmation

vBulletin 3.5 is no longer supported with vbDrupal 5. It might work with a few adjustments, but it won't be tested.
However the product xml included with this alpha is also not compatible with vBulletin 3.5

Thanks, I'll have to carry out a study of whether to move over to vBulletin 3.6 then. :)

Thank you very much for your great work! I have installed it for testing purposes on a new installation of vBulletin, but unfortunately I have a big problem:
When I want to create a new user account (irrelevant if from forum or drupal) I get the following error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function _vbuser_create() in /www_home/modules/user/user.module on line 163
Could you please figure out, what is the reason for this error?
elmuerte

oh right... this is probably because the vbuser module isn't enabled, this module _must_ be enabled.
since I didn't do anything with the updating/installing stuff for the alpha this more or less slipped past me.

Thanks, but unfortunately it wasn't the problem. The vbuser module is enabled by default in core. I don't know what was the problem but after working on the site with other modules etc. it now works great :)
Do you already have an approximate timeline on future versions (beta, stable) of vbdrupal 5 ?
elmuerte
05-15-2007, 02:23 PM
As I've said on earlier occasions, I work on vbdrupal in my spare time when I feel like it. I'm not always interested in programming and bug hunting when I've had a busy day. For the rest it's quite difficult to estimate the time I need to resolve certain issues. So all I can give is a roadmap, but a timeline is just a bit to specific for something like this.
Anyway, I think I'm going to change my initial roadmap a bit.
Beta 1:
- alpha bug fixes and proper update process
Beta 2:
- installer
Beta 3:
what used to be Beta 2
So... from beta 3 it should be more or less usable for experienced users. But ofcourse, don't quote me on that one.

I am having the same error as Unique.
Forgive me, but how would you go about enabling the vbuser module?
Thanks!

Indeed. It still irritates me that vBdrupal isn't more popular than it is, as it beats every other vBulletin CMS out there hands down (and I'm willing to bet that even if Jelsoft released an official CMS for vBulletin, it couldn't touch the capabilities of Drupal). I do my part to tout its use whenever I can.

Haven't had much/any time for programming (way to busy with my Msc thesis and other things that keep eating my planned spare time).
There is an other interesting CMS+vBulletin integration going on, it uses Joomla as CMS. Joomla is also a more proper CMS unlike most pure vBulletin CMS's or those totally unknown commercial CMS that integrate with vBulletin.
Anyway, once we are able to release vbDrupal 5 I think it will become much more popular, and hopefully more future proof with Drupal 6 (whenever that comes out).

I agree, I like Joomla, but I like Drupal because of it's blogging features and a plugin directory that can't be beat. I might consider Joomla if you think your not going to have time to release 5.1 beta anytime soon.

There was also an efford to integrate vBulletin with Typo3, but unfortunately the work seems to be paused now.

if anyone thinks drupal is difficult to get your head around try Typo 3 so you can really frustrate yourself

joomla didn't do it for me. it had some promise, but the backend was very, very slow for me, the modules and components were of very inconsistent quality, and in general, it was a pain to try and work with. i never could get the admin area to move at a reasonable pace. it was frustrating to work with. plus i started it as mambo, just before the fork, so i had that whole situation to deal with. then some of the mods i wanted were mambo, some were joomla, some would work with the other side, some wouldn't, yada yada. while i think you can build some nice sites with it, i just don't like the flow or how it works.
drupal, on the other hand, is much leaner and more flexible. i am really liking working with it. there is a learning curve, but if that's what i'm trading for power and flexibility, i'm more than fine with learning it.
SensOr-you could try the alpha on your test environement. i downloaded it and it works-which is more than i can say for the other, non-alpha products i tried for integrating drupal and vb. :)
the only things that confused me with it was that the installation procedure is different than i expected-running the update.php script was what actually installs vb drupal, and unbeknownst to me, the drupal stock menu module is disabled by default. anyway, i thought my install was toasted and redid it twice until i figured that out and simply enabled the module.

i can install vbDrupal 5.1.0 alpha from my site and after patch him to next vbdrupal 5.x.x beta release?
it`s version work or only for developers??
Goddess

my understanding (and i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong) is that you can install the alpha and upgrade later, yes. :p
it's recommended for NON-production sites because it's not completely tested and is not yet supported. we've been asked to provide feedback if we install it to serve as testers and provide information for the beta release. i guess i should figure out how best to do that and do my part. i'm still learning my way around at this point, but so far, my experience has been good.
i normally never would have selected an aphla, but as I was planning my site, i was expecting to be able to use the current druapl release and work out the shared logins with exisiting options, so the learning i did, the modules i selected, etc. were all geared towards a 5.0 drupal install. i didn't want to go back.
while i don't yet have it on my production site, after i get it configured and working the way i want, that's where i plan on going with it.
after doing a clean vbdrupal install using my vb forum backup copy (11,000 + members), it's working fine for me. i'm thrilled! if you can set up a copy of your site in a test environement, i see no reason not to give it a go. just be prepared to help troubleshoot any issues that crop up and give yourself plenty of time to figure it out in your test environement.

Speaking of Joomla, I must echo Goddess's sentiments, as that was just about the same experience I had with it (Spacebuffs was a Joomla/SMF site for about a year before I switched over to vBdrupal/vBulletin). There was also a new security vulnerability involving the Joomla/SMF bridge popping up every other day it seemed like. Nothing ever seemed to work quite right, and all-in-all it was clunky and slow to work with.

I just tried upgrading our test site from 4.7.6.3 to 5.1 alpha, and update.php is blank.
Doesn't seem to matter what I do, I can't actually run the script.

I made a thread here: http://vbdrupal.org/forum/showthread.php?t=958
As well as several bug reports.
I've upgraded 2 sites to 5.2 RC1 and on both I had to disable all modules, but then the upgrade went fine.
If this was a test site try disabling your modules before upgrading.
